What are the laws of unused vacation time in the state of Florida?

I live in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and I am leaving my job May 14. I thought i would be paid for my unused vacation time. However, my employer stated that if I didn't use it I lose it. In addition, they will not approve me taking next week of either. Now, we don't have any sort of manual or anything with policies and i did not sign anything when i signed up. I've called several departments and I'm just waiting to get a call back. HELP! can anyone give me a direction of my rights?
